As my girls have gotten older, birthdays have become a big deal in our house. I am pretty sure that Ava has her party themes picked out for at least the next three years! This year, however, it was all about Trolls. I had a ball (no pun intended) putting together a fabulous Trolls themed party for her. The fun characters and bright colors made for a great theme. I have partnered with my friends at Oriental Trading to put together this simple tutorial on making Trolls inspired beach ball party favors perfect for any Troll themed party or event. Are you ready to get started? Here we go:

Supplies

Beach balls – I used these medium sized metallic balls from Oriental Trading

Hot pink tulle from Oriental Trading

Green ribbon

Blue flower leis from Oriental Trading

Green felt

Adhesive rhinestones

Scissors

Needle and thread

Hot glue gun

Instructions

Begin by gathering your supplies. Inflate your beach balls if necessary – I made my husband do this part of the project. It was the least he could do! Haha!

Next, we will make the flowers to use to embellish our party favors. Carefully cut apart one of the blue flower lei necklaces and remove the petals and spacers from the string.

For each flower, we will use two plastic petals. Lay one on top of the other and offset the curved edges slightly. Fold the petals in half and then in half again. Using a needle and thread secure the folded end with a few stitches. Next cut a simple leaf out of green felt. I did this free hand and made leaves that had four points. Stitch this to the back of the petals. Gently fold open the flower and attach an adhesive rhinestone to the middle of the flower. If it does not want to stay in place, a small dab of hot glue may help.

Repeat the process until you have made one flower for each party favor. I made quite a few of these flowers as I used them to decorate headbands and favor bags in addition to the beach ball party favors.

Now to wrap the beach balls… Cut three pieces of tulle approximately 2-3 feet long depending on the size of your beach ball. Lay the strips of tulle on a flat surface to form a star. Place the beach ball in the middle and pull each end of the tulle up to the top of the ball. Gather all six ends tightly and secure with a piece of green ribbon. Using your scissors, trim the tops of the tulle so that your Troll “hair” looks even. Tuck any loose edges of tulle in along the sides. I also found that tying a small strip of tulle through the layers at bottom of the ball helped to tightened up the sides as well.

The final step is to add one of the blue flowers to the green ribbon bow with a dot of hot glue. And there you have it – Troll inspired beach ball party favors perfect for any Trolls themed party! My girls and our party guests were wild about them!
