H is for Holidays: Letters to Santa

Excitement is building as Christmas draws nearer. Ava, who is 4 years old, has been thinking a lot about Santa. She has had two opportunities to sit with Santa already this year although she does not think that the second one was the “real” Santa. Her little mind is always hard at work. We love to work on craft projects together, especially for holiday events. Making mailboxes for our letters to Santa was one of the easiest and most fun projects we have done in a long time. Instructions
Decorating these cute little mailboxes couldn’t be easier. With the self-adhesive shapes, all it takes is removing the backing from the shape and sticking it on. Ava was peeling and sticking faster than I could keep up. She put trees everywhere on her mailbox – on the door, on the flag, even inside! She insisted that I needed a big green tree on the inside of my mailbox door as you can see in my images. We had a lot of fun with this project. I liked that she could do it herself with little assistance from me which was a big confidence builder. Clean up was also simple – just throwing away the paper backing from the shapes. Truly a perfect non-messy craft project.
Once your mailbox is decorated, it is time to add some mail! I was going to create my own letter to Santa template, but after browsing Pinterest quickly I found a ton of great free printable options. I have included images and links to seven of my favorite letters. You can either click on the image or the name of the source directly below each image to be redirected to the original site. To add your letter to Santa to your mailbox, simply pick the template of you choice, download and print. Help your little one write their letter to Santa and stick it in the mailbox. We decided to make our letter fancy by rolling it into a scroll and tying it with a red satin ribbon. So much fun!
These little mailboxes would be cute to use with your Elf on the Shelf too. Maybe as a way for the kids to send a note back to Santa via their scout elf? I was going to take a picture of our elf with a mailbox for this post, but Jingle was far too busy causing mischief to be bothered with a photo session. Maybe next year…

Having young children has certainly added excitement and brought the magic of Christmas back into our home! It has been fun to watch my husband get into the holiday spirit again with our girls too.
