Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the reds and pinks, the hearts and flowers, the cards and candy. It is such a fun holiday to decorate for. When I saw these bright colorful smile heart erasers from Oriental Trading, I just knew that I wanted to make a holiday craft with them. These happy heart candle holders are simple and inexpensive to make and are just full of Valentine joy. Are you ready to make your own happy heart candle holder? Here we go:

Happy Heart Candle Holder - Ava's Alphabet

Supplies

Clear glass candle or votive holders (I found mine at the dollar store!)

Mini Smile Face Heart Erasers from Oriental Trading

Painter’s tape

Super glue

X-acto knife or sharp scissors

Instructions

Begin by gathering your supplies.

Wash your candle and votive holders in warm soapy water to remove any dirt or residue. Remove any price tags or stickers. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.

Determine where you would like to start your first row of hearts. Wrap a piece of painter’s tape around the candle holder to create a straight line to use as a guide. Apply a small dot of super glue to the back of an eraser heart and stick it to the vase. I initially tried using a hot glue gun, but found that super glue worked better and was not as visible from the inside of the glass candle holder.

Adding one heart at a time, work your way all the way around your candle holder. Use your X-acto knife or sharp scissors to trim away the edge of the final heart if there is not quite enough room for it. I alternated the three colors to create my pattern.

Add additional rows of hearts until you achieve your desired look. I off-set the colors in the second row so that they did not match the heart directly above it. I also choose to adhere the second row of hearts upside down, but use your creativity to find a pattern that works for you.

Allow the hearts to dry thoroughly.  Remove the painter’s tape and wipe away any finger prints with a soft cloth.

Add a candle and you have a simple, easy decoration. These hearts could also be glued to vases or decorative boxes. There are so many possibilities! And at a price of $4.99 for 144 erasers, this project is very inexpensive.
